Q. What motivated you story or character wise to have the mute character keep a drawing book of story elements?
A. Character wise, the sketchpad satisfied Cassandra's need to express turbulent emotions, especially considering she was unable to speak. Also, as for many adolescent girls, the drawings marked significant people and events in her life. Storywise, the sketchpad provided clues (not intentional) to various people about her personality and whereabouts. For example, when Shore looks through the sketchpad, he gets his first insight into her inner darkness.

Q. where did you film the really cool 'burn out' scene when Shore and Jorge stole the hearse?
A. This was actually filmed in two different locations on two different days. When they first jumped in the hearse and took off, we were at a private residence in Murrieta off Baxter Rd. The owners were really cool about tolerating a large group of our cast and crew hanging around their yard all day and all night.

When the hearse peeled out of the cemetery gates, we were in Lake Elsinore. It was serendipitous that their escape route went past a 'Speed Limit 15 miles' sign, adding to the humor of the moment.

Q. What was it like working with a mute co-star?
A. Willam: The whole thing about her not having to learn lines was bullshit. She could've smiled with her eyes at least. She obviously doesn't watch Top Model.

Mario: Lexie was a lot of fun... stayed dedicated to her role and gave a lot in return with her emotion.

Q. Where did you film the diner scenes?
A. The diner scenes were shot at the Four Aces (4-aces.com) in Palmdale. This was a set and not an actual diner. We also filmed the car rental agency scene there (it was the front office of the attached motel set), and Lola's apartment scenes (one of the motel rooms). The gas station in which the Biker Girls dropped off Cassandra was also part of that set. You have probably seen this diner and motel set several times in TV shows, commercials, and movies. The most recent movie was 'Vacancy' starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale.
